Why I built this,
and how I think about it.

Not a biography. Not a mission statement. Just an honest account of what this business is, and why it exists.

I did not set out to build a financial services business.

I set out to build something that did not exist yet — an advisory practice where the advice was genuinely independent, the person giving it was personally accountable, and the client never had to wonder whether the recommendation served their interest or someone else's.

More than twenty years in this industry will teach you a great deal about how it actually works. About the difference between advice and placement. About what "whole-of-market" really means when the person saying it has preferred lender relationships, volume bonuses, and a team of administrators processing applications in the background. About what gets left behind when finance becomes transactional.

I have worked in those environments. I understand why they exist. But I also know the cost — the client who accepted a rate they did not have to, the self-employed buyer told it could not be done when it absolutely could, the investor whose portfolio drifted in the wrong direction for three years because nobody was watching.

Lawes Financial was built to be the alternative to all of that.

Every case I take on, I handle personally. Not because I lack the capacity to scale — because the advice is only as good as the understanding behind it, and that understanding cannot be delegated. When I call a lender on your behalf, I know your situation. When I recommend a structure, I have thought through the implications. When something changes — and in property finance, something always does — you hear from me directly.

I operate between London and southern Spain, which means I work with clients navigating the full spectrum of modern life: first-time buyers finding their footing, portfolio landlords restructuring through limited companies, UK nationals abroad building a financial life across two countries at once. I have arranged finance for people in circumstances that most brokers would have turned away — and done it because I took the time to understand the full picture.

This business is not for everyone. If you want a fast online quotation, there are excellent tools that can provide that. If you want someone who will give you their direct line, think through your case as carefully as their own, and tell you what they genuinely believe — whether that is what you were hoping to hear or not — then I would like to talk.
